just got my new Logitech 'ClickSmart' 820 web cam/digital cam today! www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=products/details&CRID=4&CONTENTID=6793&countryid=19&languageid=1It runs at 2.1 Megapixels and will hold 12 full resolution pictures without an add-in memory card. As far as being a webcam goes: not too good. picture is excellent but it sucks big ones when it comes to transfer speed. must be the amount of data it tries to shove through. ps: as I was chasing up the link it says that it is USB2 capable! I will swap it over to my USB2 bank and see if it makes a diff. I will post several pictures in the next couple of days so those who are interested will see what quality it delivers as a stand-alone digi-cam

since the site is obviously suffering mental meltdown tonight, I will only post the links not the actual pics 1. town at 2.1 Mp normal view: [ftp]http://www.rockisland.com/~loren/town1.jpg[/ftp] 2. town at 2x: [ftp]http://www.rockisland.com/~loren/town2.jpg[/ftp] 3. ferry at normal view: [ftp]http://www.rockisland.com/~loren/ferryboat1.jpg[/ftp] 4. ferry at 2x: [ftp]http://www.rockisland.com/~loren/ferryboat2.jpg[/ftp] 5. Pic of me on old webcam (logitech quickcam3000): [ftp]http://www.rockisland.com/~loren/me3000.jpg[/ftp] 6. Pic of me on new cam (logitech clicksmart820) USB2: [ftp]http://www.rockisland.com/~loren/me820.jpg[/ftp] examination of the above shows the following: a) the lens of the 820 is very inferior resulting in muddy low definition photos compared to other products designed in the 2.1 Mp stand-alone category. b) the file sizes show that the 2x pics are not actually 2x but just a cropped enlargement of 1x. c) the 3000 has bad color management, but the 820 is very choppy! All these pic were transfered from the camera using photoshop7.0, no adjustments, and saved at "best" .jpeg format. so it looks like I pretty much ended up with: a very cheap stand-alone that will not function worth a german sherpard 'do-do' as a web-cam. oh well!

I'm glad you were the one to learn that instead of me. I'd always wondered how they worked.
