....as much as I am thrilled by the latest thread..... I have another question to toss into the ring.
This one will require computer savey and knowledge too! (oooh scary!)
Here goes: I have the following MB
www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/product_detail.asp?model=K7T266_Pro2-RU
I just bought a Sony model DDU1621 DVD player
sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/ddu1621_dwn.htm (support page w/pdf's)
and my Retailer gave me a flat connector cable with the small amount of wires. The "instructions" say to use an "IDE 20 pin cable", but all my IDE cables have the larger amount of wires such as the HD's and the CD-ROM and CD-R/RW drives.
So the question now rears its ugly head! Did my retailer "shag" it up and give me the wrong cable?
Now to part 2: if I need to use the regular IDE slot, how am I gonna fuss this around (refer to MSI link above)
.....IDE slot 1 has HDD1 on it with the slave not in use right now but soon will be as soon as I get around to partitioning and then install my 2nd 40gig HDD.
.....IDE slot 2 has CD-ROM with CD-R/RW slaved to it.
.....of course the floppy is plugged into it's own cute little slot, with my ZIP100 drive not even connected and therefore a moot piece of junk
.....IDE RAID slots 1, 2 are not in use....
AH, (you say!), just slave my DVD to the HDD! Wrong the slave connector won't reach!!!!!
www.rockisland.com/~loren/Picture%202.jpg is a loverly pic of my 'puter guts... from top to bottom: CD-ROM, CD-R/RW, blank, ZIP100, Floppy, HDD2, HDD1. (It is MUCH prettier in person!!!!!!)
I know I am missing something here but my brain is fogged from a hard day at work!!@! ( at least I still have enough sense left to provide good links lol )
GOOD advice please!
