I just saw this thread as I was about to install my XP 2700 using the AMD recommended method. I'm freaked out now. My opinion is to follow the processor's recommended installation procedure. Mine said no goo....SO no goo! (the MB maker said to goo?) A manufacturer always recommends the best way to do it. (they WANT thier product to work well) There might be a reason they don't want you smearing K-Y Jelly all over the interface! "to goo or not to goo" that IS the question! right now I am running a CPU/case of 47/35C (or 116/95F)which is a bit high because I am running with the case open and just the PS fans and an 80 mm front fan blowing into the case . If I use the CoolerXP then the cpu temp will drop to within 4 degrees (F) of the case temp. (How do they do that?) when I get the new case I will build my own clear side panel (might do some etching with acid on it, sorta art noveau theme and have two 120mm fans, front and back, in addition to the PS fans. The side panel will allow me to see my "Frankenstein" creation while the case remains closed. (might pop for some LED fans just for the 'halibut'!)

10-4 on the led fans, just make sure you get one with a seperate wire lead for the leds so they don't draw current from the fan.

Very weird stuff, programs like this are. I wouldn't use them but that's my opinion. I'm a gooer though ;D 24C here CPU is 40C ;D mMB is 28C w/ stock heatsink...

As a secondary thought i wonder why M/B manufacturers always put the AGP slot right under the CPU after all heat rises and Graphic cards get very warm hence hot air being sucked through the H/S .......hmmmm maybe i should put some sort of barrier in between the CPU and the Gaphics card, food for thought.

On reflection, I'd guess that siting the warmest components at the highest point protects the rest of the board from rising heat. The heat build-up at the top, which includes the psu, should be dealt with by the case fan positioning. I think I'd have to see some form of smoke test to understand the air circulation inside cases. One thing for sure though, plastic cases must get hot inside. I'm going to replace the retail XP2700 hs and fan as my idle temp. is 55-58. I guess I shouldn't have used the pad. I picked this up from wsrider; www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htmso maybe I'll manage it without screwing up. ;D Trev, I'm price -hunting for ed1's reco. Vantec . Any links ? EDIT: The only one I can find is the 4500rpm model. Is that like your's ed1, or do you have the faster version ?

What do you mean by reco? Ive just brought the Vantec Aerflow VA4-C7040 from www.overclock.co.uk for £25 they also do the ceramique for £6.93 the P&P is a bit steep at £9.34 but i have to say there after sales is excellent, the HSF had a duff fan (it was shaking so much the whole case vibrated) so they replaced it next day post before i'd even sent the old one back <gasp> you dont get that happen very often if at all, and to me aftersales is worth its weight in gold, to many companies nowadays have this sell and forget attitude in my opinion. If you find it anywhere cheaper Moon let me know will ya as i'm always looking for a bargain lol. Trev

I have to 5500 version and it's not noisy at all. With the ASUS A7N8X mobo you can set the fan to throttle down if you want, I just run mine at full speed all the time.
