apperently the heat changes its viscosity (must find out what that means ) and when it becomes thicker it doesnt work so well , where as the ceramique gets better as it gets gooeyer (found out what viscosity means ). Any idea what the best HSF is for a XP3200? Trev

I'm already using one of those on my XP2000 but its only rated to XP2800 and the 3200 gets hotter, ive looked everywhere on the web for a batch test on 3200 rated fans but nothing so i guess i'll have to wait for the next round of new products or i may try the ceramique with the zalman and see what happens, this Asus A7N8X has over temp protection so i should be ok. just a link you might look at: www.silentpcreview.com/These folk are into both max cooling and max silience. I stumbled on this while checking on my new case. The 120mm Case fans are both quiet (low RPM) and SUCK a huge amount of air! Allowing a moderate performance CPU fan to handle the same thresholds as more trendy, spendy ones, by keeping ambient temps lower in the case! They also feel that 120mm case fans lend themselves to "water cooled" systems.... (me: i'll just use ice cubes )

I read in overclockers forums that's just about all they use. Must be the best. My Artic Silver came with the heat sink. Some people talk about reapplying it every 3 months or so. I don't understand how the stuff can stop working, maybe it dries up after time. On the package it says it takes a while for the paste to even start working properly though. I think more than once a year is probably overkill??

Thanks loren i'll go have a looky see............ive put an TT volcano 6 on the CPU at the mo with arctic silver it dropped 3c on idle but i'm getting better performance on load (52c running 3DMark 2003) which is strange, must be the arctic silver i guess. I have a volcano 7+ but it sounds like a vacuum cleaner , so theres no way i'm using that. As for water cooling ive never liked the idea of water and electricity in the same case (a friend lost a complete system from a leak). so air cooling will have to do as i cant afford gas cooling. Nice motherboard too, that's the one I use, it's great and really easy to set up. Does everything automatically, of course I had to tweak it up to 3200XP speeds. Raised clock speed from 2.167G to 2.315G with no problems at all and no increase in temperatures.

I just saw this thread as I was about to install my XP 2700 using the AMD recommended method. I'm freaked out now.

I use a Vantec Aero-flow and my temps are 38/25 with 100% cpu load (Seti) at an ambient room temp of 21. My cpu temp with the stock AMD HSF w/thermal pad was 51 at 100% load.

just ordered the vantec it was £25 over here which is about $42 how does that compare with what you paid Ed? i also ordered the ceramique paste will let you know how it performs.
