It's got to be simple, but I can't crack it. Win 98SE. Three PC's on a LAN through a router. (A,B,and C) A can access B and C B can access C C can access B
B and C show an icon for A in Network Neighbourhood but cannot access A A shows an icon for itself but the folder is empty when clicked (same as when clicking it on B or C) All three are set to share files and set as 'Desktop computers' All three are configured for Microsoft Networking. I'm going nuts here.

Moon, I have 2 computers setup through a Linksys router to a DSL connection at home. Are all three computers in the same "workgroup"? Each computer has to have a different name. Is your TCP/IP installed on all 3 computers and configured to assign IP addresses automatically?

Hi signman, Each has its own name, they are all in the same workgroup and each has its own IP number. The IP numbers are set within 'TCP/IP 10/100 PCI Fast Ethernet Adaptor' and follow consecutively.

Moon, is your DHCP enabled in the router? If not, enable it. Also try changing the TCP/IP addresses to obtain addresses automatically. This is how mine is set up. I have no problems with mine.

Signman, the problem is with A alone. B and C work fine. Why should A's icon appear in all three Network Neighbourhood lists and yet be inaccessible to any of the three machines ? I can get into B or C from A, but not the other way around.

Moon, I'm not sure what is going on there. Here is a link to a tutorial for connecting multiple computers together. Have a look at it and see if there is something we have overlooked. www.9three.com/tutorials/Jan-31-2002-network_via_hub_and_switch.htmBy the way, I am not questioning your ability, I just want to make sure we aren't overlooking a simple item. I know first hand what kind of frustration it can bring. I hope this helps. If not, let me know and maybe we can figure something else out. Good luck.

Ed1, I don't know anything else to try to help moon...........everything we have tryed is the way mine is set up. Don't know what we are missing but it has to be something simple. I don't know what kind of router moon has but mine is a Linksys. I don't have any problems with it and my network at home. What do you think?

That's why I asked him what brand of router he had. Linksys is pretty much the only thing I had any experience with.

It's a 3Com ISDN router but I've got the same problem when I link the machines through a hub. It has to be a setting on 'A' but I'm baffled.

I'm gonna have to think on that moon, there has to be an answer.
Got my son working on your problem, if he can't figure it out he has a friend who installs networks for a living. Surely it can't be this tough. I would tend to agree with signman, it's going to be something simple.

Have you tried this moon,
Don't depend on Network Neighborhood to see the other computer. Instead, go into the Windows Explorer and select Tools > Map Network Drive. In the address box that pops up, type in \\computer name\shared drive name. In other words, if you the computer name for the other computer is computer1 and you shared the c drive as "c" then type in \\computer1\c Your computer should work for a while, but then another drive should appear in Windows explorer and you should be able to share files, etc, between the two computers.

Here's my sons suggestions moon.
also make sure they're same workgroup
Then make in same wg w/ same passwd crypto setting
sounds like the one perhaps has encryption and the others dont or the reverse
