That was a weird experience.ed1. The link stayed blank for two minutes and when I cancelled out my task bar had moved to the right of my screen. How do I move the task bar back to the bottom ? It won't drag.
OK, no worries. It dragged this morning. Just one of those strange things which will ensure that all Micro$haft developers will be denied an afterlife. ;D

Hold down your left mouse button over the task bar and drag it to where you want.

very cool program. the best of the wysiwyg html editors. the first thing i suggest is to change a couple of program preferences. Go to Edit > Preferences. On the left are the categories where you can change individual values. the first change is the workspace. Click the General category on the left and click the Change Workspace button when the form changes on the right hand side. Choose the Dreamweaver MX Workspace. Dreamweaver 4 interface is a bit messy. I think you'll like the organization of the Dreamweaver MX Workspace. Next click the Status Bar category. this really allows you to change the page resolution in the Dreamweaver status bar and has nothing to do with web browser status bars. Anyway, click on an open space in the Window Sizes list box and add the values 800 for the width, 600 for the heighth, "True 800x600" for the description. Most peeps now a days run screen resolutions higher than 800x600 so they'll be able to see a web browser at a true 800x600 pixels. Next click the Validator category. if you use the defaults in dreamweaver, a new page will be HTML 4.0 Transistional and if you change that in the New Document category by checking the box, "Make Document XHTML Compliant", you need to set your validator to check both the boxes HTML 4 and XHTML 1.0 Transitional. Dreamweaver defaults a new document to XHTML 1.0 Transitional if you make the new page XHTML compliant suggested above. The validator is pretty good at checking for good html although there are a few bugs that i can't remember right now. if you really want to check if your html code generated is totally bullet proof, use the HTML Validator also at www.w3c.orgThe best thing to do is to start making pages and experiment. Dreamweaver has a pretty good help section with some tutorials that should get you started also. Some things. before you go about inserting images and other objects, you need to know about directory structure. First off, it's good practice to make an individual parent folder for your each of your different website/pages projects. Images, scripts, and cascading style sheets should be in their own folders inside the main parent project folder. Dreamweaver will default to linking relevant resources (images, media, etc.) relative to webpage location requesting a link to these resources. you have a project folder for your home website called moon. directly inside moon are all your webpages like index.html, pics.html, and aboutme.html also directly inside the moon directory is a directory called images where you have your images like moon_pic.jpg and my_painting.jpg. Let's say your editing your pics.html page. when you insert an image, moon_pic.jpg, dreamweaver will link that image relative to where pics.html resides in the directory hierarchy. this means (after you save your html page that is), dreamweaver will set the src attribute to the image tags generated equal to "images/moon_pic.jpg". The same idea goes for linking to other html pages inside your website. That's the directory structure you need when you upload your site to a host. the actual parent project folder's name isn't important, but the structure underneath is. if you want to insert an image onto your page, go to Insert > Image. Browse to the image you want to insert your page. keep in mind good housekeeping suggested in the above example on directory structure. Dreamweaver will place the image whereever the cursor is on your Design canvas. The default is left align (pic is place on the left side of the page). if you want it on the very right side, click the right align button of your properties window, usually at the bottom of the workspace and do the Insert > Image. if you want the pic in the center of the page, click the center align button on properties window, usually on the bottom of the page and do the Insert > Image. if you want it somewhere more specific, use this key combination, "ctrl-shift-spacebar", to insert non-breaking whitespace and do the Insert > Image. if you want to insert Flash movies or quicktime movies, go to Insert > Media > Flash for flash movies or Insert > Media > Plugins for anything not either Flash, Shockwave, Java Applets, or Active X (like a quicktime movie or windows media type movie - *.wmv). for placement of these movies, it's the same thing as with placing images described above. have fun, be creative, and experiment.

That's probably what I need. I been tryin' to make up a new web site since I took my old one down. I now have the first page done, but I am doing it the hard way. Typing the code for what I want, or cut and paste from online tutorials. Sure is making it hard. I am using First Page 2000 to do it with. Is there another free WYSIWYG program I could try.
