it can be disabled in the registry!(so it won't run at startup) i'll have to ask my resident registry hacker tomorrow how to do it, but it can be done! Adam

Donna, it seems a bit strange that diskeeper took so long for you. I recall when I first installed it, it took a fairly long time, due to the fragmentation already present on my disk. Now, however, it takes less than two minutes to defrag my 120 gig drive. I have the 'paid' version, (pro) and have it configured to only run when I tell it to. For disabling anything from running in the start menu, when it doesn't have the option in the app, I recommend using jv16 Power Tools, available at; www.jv16.orgIt's free and has loads of uses.

that power tool program sounds interesting, but I see that it is beta. how is its stability??
ps: i went to that site and found out that they have a board there that looks pretty good (a little disorganzied). Absolutely filled with techies! Just like the "good ol' days" back at the pit!

You can use jv16 RegCleaner (http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/programs/RegCleaner.exe) to remove items from startup list.

I'm running the latest version of 'power tools', and haven't had any problems with it.
It's constantly being updated at the home site.
The registry cleaner function, is included with the full 'tools' application, as well as some more useful stuff.
The forum there is pretty good, and any questions about the tools, and thier use, get answered fairly quickly.
JV, who is the originator of the programs, is into it, for the satisfaction, rather than the money. He reads the boards there with fair regularity, given the time he has to spend on the rest of his life.
