I have the same problem with my W2K Pro machine. Mine is all around, general clicking on anything......there is a several seconds to 20 or so seconds before anything happens. Didn't use to do that. This thing is supposed to be fast......scsi 10,000rpm drive , over a 2gig processor, all the goodies. I guess it's just all these large 40 and 50 meg graphic files I use. I hope someone has a fix for it.

With a fast CPU, ample RAM and 10K HDD you should be eating 50MB grahics in an instant. In my case I'm not even asking my system to do any work. Even an empty dive takes an age to respond. C'mon guys, wassup ?

Have you checked to see what your cpu utilization is a idle? Sounds like something started using up your processor time.

moon, I had (and still do) a delay problem ever since I installed the (my) latest verion of Nero. It seems that my drives route through Nero first before they open, even if Nero isn't active. just an idea

You'll have a start up item named Nero check, try turning it off loren. Do in msconfig for 2000 or RegClean.

Everything else opens instantly, folders , files, applications, everything except my drives. Seems to me that it's a problem related to hardware access but I don't know what controls hardware access so I don't know how to check it.

i had this problem when buiding my new PC it turned out that i'd accidently put two fans on the same power cable as the H/Drives i guess the fans was sucking the juice from them, having said that i noticed it also took an age to boot, is that the same as your getting?

I've always had DMA enabled with no probs. I've just discovered that it's fine in safe mode. Must be something loading with Windows but I've got very little running and nothing new installed. Resources are fine, lots of free RAM. I'm baffled.

Try this moon, it sometimes will clear up strange problems. Restart in safe mode and go into device manager and make a copy of everything that is listed. Don't forget to expand the categories. After you have made list restart into normal mode, once again go into device manager and delete anything that isn't on the list you made in safe mode. More than likely there will be quite a few items, some of which look important. Don't worry, just delete all that don't appear on the safe mode list.
Now restart in normal mode again and your pc will scan everything you have installed and rebuild the files if necessary. An old timer taught me this years ago, there is a bunch of entries left behind from software and hardware installs that just needs to be purged every once in a while.
