know what files i need to alter so this copy of windows xp pro lets me log on without having to activate it? it's installed on a virtual pc so don't want to activate it in case i use it on a real pc. i used safe mode and f1 key to get into it but unless i delete/alter some file or another it won't let me log on in normal use unless i activate it.

i'm sure there is a hack out there to bypass the xp activation. or at least a hacked key you can use, I do not look for that stuff so I can not do much and I can't go to those kinda sites in windows (but I know you can in *nix) to look for a key

i don't really want to use an illegal key, so won't look for one, was just hoping for a quick easy file edit or something to use the key i have, it's really just so i could compare what the differences are between home and the pro versions of xp. ;D it's not really that important because i doubt i'll every use it anyway, even if i could log in to it. i have windows home and windows 7 both available to use if i need, but i never do. ;D

interesting thing about xp keys...is that M$ only keeps the data for 120 days when you activate your key. After that you can install that same key on another pc. But you better wait the full 120 days before you do

seems odd that, after all, wouldn't think it would take much to keep a running database on keys.
