You need to reset the password using a boot cd. You can make a boot CD with software like the one at the address listed below. I haven't used this one so I don't know how well it works. I would try the password they gave you first though. Try it in lowercase, uppercase too. home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

tried both ways for password. Just waiting to hear from her in case its something else. Maybe a different login name. Her name is the one that pops up then asks for the password.

The Offline NT Password & Registry editor on the Ultimate Boot CD has worked for me several times. It was what I was going to suggest too. Another thing you might try, is to boot into safe mode, log into the administer account and go to control panel> user accounts. From there you can change the password on the users account that you want to access. You can leave it blank if you do not want a password on the account

I can't log into the admin if i dont have a password can I? If they didn't assign a password to the root administrator account you can log in as Joe suggested. From there you can change passwords, create and delete accounts.

After trying over and over again yesterday, I can not get to safe mode. When I press f8 I get a screen that asks me what i should boot into, floppy, cd rom or hard drive. Absolutely no safe mode.
After reading some posts above, I am not able to get to control panel to do some of that stuff.
I turn computer on windows xp starts loading, A little box pops up with the old owners name in it,, and a box under it asking for a password, the one I have doesn't work.

That is the computer bios asking you for your boot preference. You should choose f8 and push the f8 button down again. The second time it will ask if you want to boot normally, safe mode or safe mode with network . Choose safe mode and it may take awhile, but it should boot. Of course you may run into the password box again.
