More info would help... OS, reason for the re-install, other specs, etc. Could be hundreds of things (play nintendo, rent a video, read a book)

You need to install video drivers. 2KPro installs default VGA drivers by default just to get you going.

Just go to the site of the make of your video card and download new drivers from there.

well...i'm back to normal color and I think! (scary, me thinking eh?) everything is pretty much close to normal....still havent figured out how to access device manager yet butI WILL!! If the "add/delete hardware" thang is correct I now am in complete control of my toys! LOL The onlyproblem device seems to be me!
one thing I can't understand is where all the "system tools" are??? None of the good ones are here in 2K, like in 98SE (ie scan disc etc.) I guess I better re-install my Norton very quick!
I also miss being able to set it to disallow 3rd party cookies! If that option is here I cant find it! But at least my delay problem with Explorer no long exists! ;D ;D ;D
It is really scary looking at this blank screen and nothing under "programs".... just like being sucked into a black hole!!! dang, it will take me a week to reinstall everything!
;D

Sounds like fun! A clean slate.
In my opinion, Norton is a system HOG, that isn't worth the resources it uses up. I use norton antivirus, because it came with the computer, and works fine, but the other app's can be replaced with those from other vendors, that don't try to take over every available resource to run. I have never had near the problems from other makers, that I've experienced with norton. Starting with my win95 machine, and on up.
jv16 Powertools, diskeeper, zone alarm, adaware, spybot s&d, etc, etc.

Norton is only a hog when you allow it to run in the background. But I get a warm fuzzy when I know AV is there doing its thing. It has saved my skinny arse more than once! All the rest of Norton SystemWorks can be run on "demand only" It's various options can be used to "softly" manipulate windows problems, whereas some of your above mentioned proggies (I have all of them too) are very dangerous to use if you are not a true bench-jockey. (jv16PT in particular I walk very softly around that prog! By the way, the kid is coming out with V1.4 on/about the first.)

Right click my computer, the select properties/then hardware tab. This will give you device manager. Scan disk has to be run from a command prompt. In your help file locate commands then command reference. Scandisk is called chkdsk in 2000.
