Out of nowhere my pc fails to shutdown or restart correctly. I'm running windows 2000 and on both operations after it completes saving settings and says windows shutting down everything freezes. After a few seconds the hard drive light goes out and I power cycle my UPS to restart. Any ideas out there.

Have you recently installed anything that might have made registry changes?
Used any tweaking app's to vary your power management? or bios?
The very LEAST a computer should do, is shut down when you tell it!

Hmm... I'll look around. If I find anything pertinent, I'll get back to you.

Thankyou John, your link got me headed in the right direction. Ended up finding a corrupt motherboard AMD chipset driver. Reloaded from the AMD site and all is well.
