Anybody know how to get rid of all the index.dat files in W2K Pro? I've tried several programs but I can't get rid of all of them. I still have one in my "content Ie5" folder that refuses to leave. It has grown to a 1,876 bk size. In Win98, I can use Spider but for some reason it don't work in W2K.

Got it! I just thought about the "administrator" function. Logged on as the "admin" and was able to delete all the crap from my account!

I cannot delete my index.dat file? I always thought you had to have a special program to do so?

You're entirely correct. He needed administrator privileges to run Spider.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification. I have just obtained spider as well. It's here for those who wish it: www.fsm.nl/ward/I reckon it works. It says it will delete what I selected on preferences upon a restart; however the scan did not pick up anything...I figure that is a scan for the "hidden URL" which I have no idea..... oh well back to work now..

Sure, you can delete .dat files but they eventually will reappear. All you are doing is temporarily shrinking the size of the file.

Just like your Recycle Bin, you only shrink the size of it, just to be refilled again. And you can't fill up your cars gas tank because the minute you start the engine you're draining the tank towards empty again. And peeing won't empty your bladder, you'll just drink more and refill it back up again for another go. This shit could go on forever. NEXT
