thought i'd give you all something to get your old brain boxes working while your drinking your morning coffee..
A famous mathematician has the following inscription on his headstone:
Here lies Diophantus,' the wonder behold. Through art algebraic, the stone tells how old: God gave him his boyhood one-sixth of his life, One twelfth more as youth while whiskers grew rife; And then yet one-seventh ere marriage begun; In five years there came a bouncing new son. Alas, the dear child of master and sage After attaining half the measure of his father's life chill fate took him. After consoling his fate by the science of numbers for four years, he ended his life.
How old was he?
got it from another forum but i did work out the correct answer, tell a lie, my answer was wrong, stupid mistake but still wrong. ;D

cheated or not yes 84 is the correct answer. so here's another one.. You are in possession of a white piece of cloth that you would like to use for a banner. It is rectangular in shape with dimensions of 3 units wide and 4 units tall. Your banner will have 3 vertical stripes. Each stripe will be 1 unit wide by 4 units tall (each will be 1/3 of the banner). Now to design your masterpiece. You have Red, Blue, and Green paint available. You will not change the size of the stripes and you don't want adjoining stripes to be the same color (you want three distinctly colored fields). How many different choices of color pattern do you have to choose from?

ok no-one whats to try and guess or work out the answer so here it is.. 36 different patterns available. if you leave 1 line blank it would be white therefore giving you 4 and not 3 colours to use. so patterns would be.. red, blue, green red, blue, white red, blue, red red, green, blue red, green, white red, green, red red, white, blue red, white, green red, white, red as you can see there are 9 patterns for each colour, giving you a total number of 36.
